Masdar City- The Market

The advantages of owning a car:

1. you don't have to wait 1 hour for the bus.
2. you don't have to waste another hour getting to a destination that  should only take 20 minutes
3. you don't have to walk under the scorching heat to finally arrive at Masdar City doors from the nearest bus stop.

Then, repeat that going home.

I was at Masdar City the other day for the event called The Market, a monthly family affair (the next one will be on October I think, crazy right?) of what else than selling any organic farm related goods. Boring as it may seem, it's the "Where" that makes it interesting- Masdar City. This city, developed by the giant Mubadala is first of its kind the UAE or perhaps the world to use renewable energy on everything. It aims to deliver the highest quality of living and working environment with the lowest possible ecological footprint.(Yes, I cut-and-pasted this statement, lol).

Masdar is still Phase 1 complete- The Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, which is actually open to the public at any time. It's a postgrad school developed together with the MIT in the United States.Phase 2 is undergoing construction and phase 3 is still on paper. They said it'll be finished by 2016 and this is one of those hubs Abu Dhabi is investing for its 2030 vision.

To those who wants to go there, it's just 2 minutes away from the Etihad Plaza near Khalifa City A. You can also take the 170 Masdar City bus from the city for 2 AED. It was my first time going there. It was easy to find and can be covered easily by foot.

do you know why there is a long queue?

This. the Personal Rapid Transit-the coolest thing in there and it's free. This driverless thing will take you to the MIST. Cute eh? it is powered by rechargeable batteries and runned by magnets planted on the ground

The MIST. I love the Gaudi-ish design of  this building, these buildings. and i like the idea that it goes along with its modern and steel counterparts.

the wind tunnel. when the wind is 38 degrees hot and gets in the tunnel,it gets out 13 degrees cooler on the ground. No wonder it was not hot in there.
i think these are solar panels.

the Esplanade-ish stage

i love how the solar panels create a saw tooth pattern .

kids love to play on the mini fountains. There was lot going that day:magic show, fairies, face painting, etc.
i love this organic store

i want to buy one of these but what for?
i bought this instead.this is actually and surprisingly effective.
this is from the Philippine Community Fund booth. I can't believe the Big 250 bags reached here in Abu Dhabi. They also sell bags, wallets made of soda can pull-tabs. Yes, Martin Margiela is that influential, lol. Thank God I wasn't wearing that bracelet that day,lol

this would have been a very nice picture without the mop, dustpan, and garbage bag.lol

and the sight of this cute little boy in his really REALLY short shorts....Priceless.LOL. I want to have legs like that long.hahaha.
