Charles-Diana VS. William-Kate Wedding

I missed yesterday's wedding of the century. I was at Masdar City covering the  The Market. Not that I care about weddings but I think this one is worth blogging about. So why not compare these two events or at least the main characters of these fairy tales.

Let's start at Charles and Diana's way back. Diana's gown was designed by The Emanuels. What I like about this dress is it is grand. Fit for the term princess. It looked like the ones you imagine when you read those stories with a happily ever after ending,. Do you think she needs squirrels following her around  or the seven dwarves?lol

and i really like what Prince Charles was wearing here

and now lets go to William and Kate's.

I really don't like the term "commoner" given to her. So what if she did not come from a royal family. Hans Christian Anderson did not call Cinderella that so why do the press give so much buzz about it. The Royals, like us, are after all human themselves: imperfect with roots of hemophilia(LOL) . So let us stop giving titles shall we.

Now this story could have been every girls dream, only this time Kate's was the right foot to fit in that little glass slipper. This fantasy really needs the whole animal kingdom following her and not just a squeaky squirrel.

And the thing that only matters, the gown. Designed by Sarah Burton, the now creative director of Alexander McQueen. How lucky could this assistant be doing such. So many fashion designers would have wished to do this dress and I think the biggest couture houses in Paris have prepared for this moment. The couple must have decided somebody British to design it and the Alexander McQueen label is just on the forefront when it comes to design, craftmanship, and it being  British.. John Galliano would have been a competition but his tongue lashing at a bar kept him inside the box. Can you imagine what the dress would have been like if Gareth Pugh, Vivienne Westwood, Christopher Bailey, Matthew Williamson, Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo designed it? Hmmm. I want to see Gareth's sketch.I'm sure he has one.

Anyway I really liked the dress she wore. It's simple and low-key a.k.a a disappointment to many. Kate I think is not one of those girls that would want to wear anything flamboyant and crazy. She is not Carrie Bradshaw so that she can wear a bird on her head and choosing a gown that only its details could speak for itself was the best choice. It wasn't a sore to the eye. It's very refreshing to see a wedding gown again like what wedding gowns should be-white, pure, simple, and only a very keen eye on details can appreciate. Look at how this dress gave her shape: the bust and the hips. The delicate lace sleeves-Perfect. She could have it omitted to expose her shoulders but it was like her saying "You can't have it all". and oh, the bouquet reminds of what little girls make for their yet imaginable wedding when they meet their prince one day. Her look here truly speaks of what she really is and her story, and I believe it and I buy it. I really love how opposite she was compared to Diana on her wedding.

Can you see the details on that train? Fantastic.

The 6-Emirate Visita Iglesia Tour

First of all, I'm not Catholic. I was just invited to come along to a yet to be laid plan that came up the last minute. Mention to me the word Dubai and I will definitely and surely  not hesitate and think twice going. So off we go, 5 of us, Thursday night for the Visita Iglesia or simply called "church hopping" during the Holy Week.

Church No.1
Dubai Outlet Mall,lol- I was so happy we included this "church" in our trip. After 2 hours of recollecting and contemplating what I have in the closet, Saints Bottega Veneta and Yves Saint Laurent gave me the light I needed.hahaha. Oh, yet again my savings plan on the rocks, but can you really resist something YSL and BV at 80% off? Not me.:D. I bought a pair of Bottega sneakers in a Gucci dustbag and Dolce and Gabbana box at Priceless- Harvey Nichols and Bloomingdale's' outlet. How funny is that?lol. I also got a YSL Rive Gauche belt that needs another hole to fit but turned out cute worn as bracelet. And I'am very happy with my two pairs of Acne jeans. How I wish I can say that when they're on my face.haha.

Anyway, we started our journey at Ras Al Khaima on a very hot Friday and wearing my Acne black pleather pants wasn't a good idea.
Outfit:  Martin Margiela tee, bracelet and eyewear, Acne pants, McQ bag, Alessandro Dell' Acqua hitops.

The first church we visited. Ras Al Khaimah.
The mass was in Indian. We left after 15 minutes.

Some snapshots on our way to Umm Al Qwein. What if Abu Dhabi or Dubai looked like this? I will definitely go home after a month. Where in the world am I going to sport my  little out there fashion here?lol.
Photos were taken  in the car. It made the already bad view even bad.hehe.

 Umm Al Qwein
After two hours of looking for this following so many inaccurate directions from anybody we finally found the Warehouse. No, it is actually a church, believe it or not..........
........and believe it or not, although I'm not an expert on how many Our Lady's out there, there is in fact an Our Lady of Arabia.
We went to Ajman but it turned out no Catholic church in there. So off we headed to Sharjah

Wrong church. The Catholic church is behind that tree. That I didn't know until we left.lol. I thought they were one.

that sign made me laughed a little.
Photos at Sharjah going to Dubai

 An Islamic Museum

the intricate tile mosaic on this mosque is amazing.
I have no Idea what is this.the sign is in Arabic

If London has a London Eye, Sharjah has an Eye of the Emirates.
 In Dubai's St. Mary's Church

I love how the mosque is juxtaposed to this church.hehe
Free water, but you have to share one glass with everyone else. want?lol.

So the very thirsty and hungry us did not think twice to eat when we should be fasting at a Filipino restaurant in Al Rigga.I will never,NEVER eat Relyenong Bangus there.lol. We were supposed to go to Abu Dhabi's St. Joseph Church after  but decided to go to Jumeirah Beach instead.Oh, the sight of half naked people................

How could this trip end so unholy.lol.

Happy Easter!!!!

the LN-CC.com package: Maison Martin Margiela Book

This is the most extensive coverage of this book you can see online and as much as  I want to share you page per page, I can only show you a third of it; but the best third of it. And it took me 7 hours to create this post so you have to read this.lol.

I received an e-mail from LN-CC.com, an online shop, the other day saying they have new books in store. What caught my eye was an image of a book with Hedi Slimane written on it and a half naked, I think, girl(i think because the nipples are big, lol). I said to myself " I want this", but an " OH MY GOD" moment appeared when the SOLD OUT sign on the Maison Martin Margiela book was gone. Not a single week I did not check if the store restocked this because I don't want to miss this again. This book comes and goes so fast on the shelves. And truly, after purchasing this finally, the Sold Out sign again was there. A sign of relief that I was the "lucky one" this time.:)

Back in Manila, I received an infomail from the house that they'll be releasing this on October 2009- the end of the world. That date? My name was on the unemployed roster.Recession hit me.I was fired simply put, lol. Oh, that's where my "creative writing" brought me. I guess "fattened leech" isn't a good phrase to describe somebody close to the boss,LOL.But look at the bright side of it, it threw me to Abu Dhabi where sunshine is much brighter.:). When I first arrived in Dubai Christmas Day that same year, the book was my second agenda going to the Maison Martin Margiela store but they did not stock any.At least they have L'incognito pilot-the first on my list.Until the store closed down last year June.

OK, this is just a book.NO. Martin Margiela and his team were so involved making this. This is not one of those fashion books out there that were done for the label's sake. From the cover, to the content, to how essays, letters and articles were printed, you can't help but muse on how it was done and you can really see the house's hands working on this.Very clever, very Margiela. This one has its unique I-don't-know that makes it special. Reviews even say this is a work of art in itself. This is also one of those last pieces Martin has made before resigning making this book so covetable, not to mention, the cheapest of all he has done.

The cover is made of white linen with the label's 0-23 markings embroidered in white thread in contrast to the glossy paper that the house use for their accessories box. This detailing alone tells this book is one of a kind. Margiela must have thought texture so that when the reader touches this book it would be like holding one of his clothes, carefully looking and feeling its details. And also, texture always sends a  much personal message-that every stitch of that thread resembles hard work and history that the Maison is just proud of.

Why white?
"White means the strength of fragility and the fragility of the passage of time. An expression of unity, purity and honesty. It is never just white, but more- whites, all shades are possible. We usually us matte white so the passage of time is evident."- Maison Martin Margiela
I love how the house uses the third person We always. Martin is just so humble to include his team in everything he does.

The contents of this book features Martin's work for the past 20 years. Images from his shows, invitations, magazine covers and articles, lookbooks, products, exbihitions, stores etc were carefully chosen to tell a story that appears to be vague and hanging but direct and clear in what the house is all about-creativity. It also has 5 ribbon markers and 12 booklets containing articles and letters that looked as if they were only photocopied and appears to be like in a notebook, a computer screen,a personal stationery, a book, a flyer etc.. This is very fresh. The paper used is thick and not so glossy as the other fashion books are. The photos are haphazard, some collaged and taken from editorials.

This is the perfect coffee table book, just don't let that coffee spill.:)
It's a collector's item. It's a conversation piece. It's Margiela.

So can I sing the Little Mermaid's Part of Your World line
"Look at this stuff, isn't it neat? Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?"No, not until I have this

Margiela watch bracelet. Is it worth buying a watch that doesn't tell time and worse with its display thing on?LOL. I hope this sells out fast so that I can stop thinking about this anymore. It's killing me since the day I saw this on the runway.
Available at LN-CC.com. They offer ,take note, FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE without any minimum purchase and they cut 20% off the price if you live outside the UK. It doesn't usually work as a first time customer but just email their very nice customer service to have them adjust your account and automatically deduct the 20% VAT(but I think it doesn't apply on books). Their products are also much lower priced than others like antonioli, oki-ni, luisaviaroma, and colette.

Why in the world did I use my fuchsia comforter as my background?hahaha.
